Alexander Technique for Actors
This class takes place in person at our Los Angeles studio and is taught by AmSAT certified Alexander Technique teachers, Jennifer Schulz & Nick George.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE AND ACTING:
As actors, your body is your instrument, and its well-being is vital to the work. The Alexander Technique is essential training, covering everything from movement on stage and camera, to eliminating habits and achieving stillness, to saving yourself unnecessary strain by coming into natural, healthy alignment. It provides you with a systematic approach to help you let go right then in the moment you need to be the most free, fearless, and open to receiving what is in front of you. The Alexander Technique is taught at every major conservatory, and is often coached on the biggest Film & TV sets. The Howard Fine Acting Studio is proud to feature two of LA’s leading Alexander Technique instructors to introduce the technique and provide resources for your work.
ABOUT THE CLASS:
Learn to be your most authentic and confident self. Discover more freedom and ease in your system, while learning to let go of unnecessary harmful physical, emotional, and thinking patterns.
This eight-week course is designed specifically for the actor, and offers the foundational tools of The Alexander Technique with a focus on the unique challenges that performers face. A practical approach to alleviate performance related stress, experience more authenticity, and enjoy more ease and comfort in your body, this class offers highly personalized attention and individual hands-on work with both Nick and Jenn in a live, small group setting.
Weeks 1-3: The Fundamentals
Without awareness nothing can change. Learn or brush up on the foundational principles. Get yourself thinking and moving with more ease right away.
Weeks 4-5: Map your body, Deepen your AT Practice
The way you think about the way you move affects the way you move. Learn how to consciously cooperate with your design in order to find more freedom, ease, balance and coordination.
Weeks 6-8: Risk and Resilience in Performance
Humans innately fear the unknown, but the unknown is where all the magic happens. Expand your capacity for taking risks while respecting your boundaries. Learn to take the principles into text, shift stage fright into dynamic expressivity, and solidify your personal AT practice going forward.
This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.

The Alexander Technique work is considered “hands-on,” meaning the instructors use touch and gentle physical guidance to help uncover patterns of muscular tension.
