Personalization: 3-Day Workshop

This workshop takes place in-person at our Los Angeles studio and is taught by master teacher Marilyn McIntyre!

Personalization is comprised of two Parts: Your “Story” and Your Imagination.

This 3-day Intensive will explore the fusion of the two parts of Personalization to experience the awareness, clarity, and connectedness of the actor’s mind, heart, and body. Explore and understand these essentials to be able to bring a fictional character to complex, spontaneous, and compelling life. Acting is really about getting ready to act. When we’re working, the acting shouldn’t show. Besides being physically and vocally prepared, the actor must also be emotionally prepared. The actor’s instrument must be “tenderized” so that the fictional story can be successfully, but safely, personalized. The audience wants to be taken on a journey; you must be ready to go on the journey of the character, no matter how emotionally challenging the journey might be.

Personalization is crucial and at the heart of an actor’s work in all genres: “kitchen sink” real-life, contemporary, historical, fantasy/science fiction, etc. Living truthfully in a fictional world, whatever that world may be, is always the goal. And you, as human actors, have to find where and what that being, or character, is going through. Recognizable human emotions are essential in all of these beings; in all of these characters.

STORY informs PERSONALIZATION.
PERSONALIZATION leads to BELIEF.
BELIEF allows SPONTANEOUS LIFE to happen every time.

In a safe environment:
• More readily, deeply, yet privately access not merely your emotions and senses, but more completely your truest self for your acting (scenes, auditions, jobs).
• Use psychological/physical connections to more quickly release and heighten your personal instincts and impulses.
• Challenge the blocks to your passions and innate spirit for practical application to the work.
