Singing Technique
This class is held in person at our Los Angeles based studio and is taught by David Coury.
Every Actor has an authentic Voice and Singing is one’s birthright. While being able to access that authentic Singing Voice will be liberating, and being able to apply that authenticity and liberation to songs will be magical, it all comes down to one’s Singing Technique. If something’s off, it’s technical. If there’s a mental block, it’s addressed through technique. On the flip side, when it’s magic, it’s technique. As Mr. Coury says, “Great singing transcends technique because of technique.”
This course is conducted in 2 separate sections—one designed for Singing Actors who want to broaden their vocal mastery, and one designed for Non-Singing Actors who want to learn how to sing and begin the road to mastery.
Participants sing in every class. All the strong fundamentals of singing technique taught by Mr. Coury are customized to meet each actor where they’re at, to transform technical issues, to encourage healthy habits, and to support the development and maintenance of the actor’s authentic Singing Voice.
Piano recordings of specialty vocal exercises are made for practice between classes. These exercises optimize the relationship between the Voice, Breath, & Body while expanding vocal Range and improving Resonance.
If you’re unsure of which of the 2 sections you should register for, submit a video of yourself singing an excerpt of any song, with accompaniment or a cappella, and Mr. Coury will review and make a recommendation. REQUIREMENTS
The use of a phone, Ipad, tablet or computer to join online class via ZOOM and record self-taped videos for homework.
You are required to join this online class from a stable and focused environment with strong internet connection. Please do not take class from a car, airport, restaurant, etc.
HOW IT WORKS
Upon receipt of payment, participants will receive a confirmation with the information and instructions for joining the online class. Joining a Zoom meeting is super easy and requires the use of one of the following: computer, tablet, phone or Ipad.
Payment must be received before the class start time to be permitted entry into the course.
In order to ensure proper enrollment, please leave a first and last name and use this same name to log into Zoom on the day of the meeting. Your name will be seen by other participants. Participants who try to join the Zoom meeting under a name other than used to enroll here will not be granted access in to the meeting.
Please note, we do not offer refunds for missed classes. Make-ups or credits may be offered at the sole discretion of the studio administration and only if a similar course or lecture is being offered in the near future.
