TEENS: 6-Week Acting Technique (In Person)

This class takes place in person at our Los Angeles studio and is taught by Becky Cloe!

It is open to new and experienced actors ages 15+ and is the recommended starting place for all actors new to our studio.

The Teen Acting Technique course covers the foundations of acting technique and intro to scene study, including:

Foundations of Acting Technique
- Personalization
- Sensory work
- Emotional recall
- How to handle nerves
- Script analysis/breaking down a scene

Scene Study
- Addressing individual habits and common mistakes
- Working on assigned material
- Adding to your actor’s toolbox
- Rehearsal techniques
- Role Preparation
- Common Acting Mistakes
- Physical Life

The studio provides a wide range of furniture and set pieces for young actors to create an authentic on set or on stage experience. Actors will learn the key elements to mastering physical life and how to be fully alive in the given circumstances- being real. Focus is put on the fundamentals of working moment to moment, identifying and fixing individual acting habits, and partner work.

This course exclusively addresses the craft of acting as a whole, adding necessary skills to the actors toolbox to not only aide the actor in booking the job, but nailing the role on set or on stage.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
This class is designed for teen actors aged 15+. Some outside preparation is required. This includes working on and memorizing a script, picking out their character's wardrobe, and bringing in personal props. In preparation for their scene, students will also be required to meet with their partner at least once each week for the last three weeks. While it is preferred that students meet with their partner in person, they can opt to meet over Zoom/FaceTime instead.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
This is an intensive by nature. The work is challenging, but the class is a ball! Students should come prepared to dive in and work hard, but know there will be lots of fun as well! We are intentional about creating an atmosphere where students feel free to make mistakes and grow in their confidence despite nerves and self-consciousness. For this reason, we talk a lot about nerves and how to handle them!

ABOUT OUR YOUTH PROGRAM:
Howard Fine Youth fosters a safe environment to create, imagine, and learn all the elements of acting on a professional level. Our curriculum is student-focused, family-friendly, age-appropriate, and emotionally sound. We value mental health in our students and teach strategies to navigate the industry and the craft, so they can work independently and feel confident.

WHAT SETS US APART:
Much of what is taught in youth acting classes today, are tricks and tips instead of a lasting craft.

Our sights are set MUCH higher!

Howard Fine Youth teaches the same award-winning approach our studio is known for, but in an age appropriate way meant for actors who play high school-aged roles. Here, actors will learn and hone a respectable way of working in the industry. They will gain a professional skill set and understand what’s expected of them on stage or set.

CAN PARENTS WATCH?
Our classes are closed to parents and outside guests. We follow the same teaching principles that Howard established years ago with the adult program. Learning this craft is a process and requires the artist to risk making mistakes and fully let go and explore. This is near impossible to do when you are in "performance mode." Performing live for an audience should come after plenty of rehearsal and practice and is not something we believe should be part of the developmental process of the craft. That said, there may be opportunities in the future for our students to show off some fully rehearsed work. Stay tuned!!!
